The West Side Initiative is a coordinated effort among community and institutional leaders to bring to life the objectives and strategies outlined in the West Side plan. We’ll be expanding this section in the coming weeks and months to include updated content on these community initiatives.
In 2011, WSCO began the process of developing a new Community Plan for our neighborhood. The actions of each of Saint Paul’s seventeen District Councils (including WSCO) are guided by a District Plan. These documents help to plan improvements in each District by identifying needs, articulating priorities, and guiding the investments initiated by developers, the City, and the District Councils themselves.
What has emerged from this planning process is an intimate portrait of our neighborhood, both as it stands today and as we imagine it in the years to come. Not surprisingly, we found that above all else, we are a passionate community. We are a community that values its distinctive identity, its cohesiveness, and its connectivity, and we envision a future that is both prosperous and sustainable.
As our neighborhood moves into the final stages of the plan’s development, WSCO is working in collaboration with a broad range of community organizations and residents to implement this expansive 10 year vision. We need to hear from as many West Siders as possible and would greatly appreciate you taking your time to help. Implementation is the most critical piece to our year long effort to articulate a community vision for the future of the West Side.
