We work on a wide range of environmental issues such as transportation, housing and energy, food and health, green and decent jobs, and land and natural resources.
Areas of Focus
Food and Health- we are what we eat! Our food system is very important to our family and community health, and it has large impacts on the environment. By eating more foods that are locally grown, without the use of pesticides, our neighborhood can help our children to grow healthy and strong, and preserve our environment. Join us in creating a local, healthy food market that nourishes our neighborhood.
Housing and Energy - How we use our energy affects our household budgets and the environment. In Minnesota and at the federal level, policies are being developed that will have massive transition impacts on the price and use of energy. Join us in developing a West Side paln that will take our residents needs into account.
Green and Decent Jobs - Greater and greater attention is being paid to creating new employment opportunities that support and environmentally friendly economy. Be a part of creating a Green Jobs-Green Community Development Plan that will find new ways to attract investments in our neighborhood businesses, as well as create more job training and employment opportunities.
Transportation- How does the West Side fit into the metropolitan transit system? How can teh neighborhood attract investment for more public transportation, bicycle paths and facilities, walkable streets, and family-oriented, business-friendly roads? We are working on making transportation safe, affordable and healthy for everyone in our neighborhood.
Land and Natural Resources - We have a vibrant neighborhood with a long and honorable history of creating opportunities for everyone. We love the special spaces that make up teh West Side and want to preserve and maintain our historical and environmental treasures. Participate in our efforts to design a model neighborhood land-use plan that will make the West Side the best and more desirable place to live!
