Urban Agriculture

WSCO’s efforts around urban agriculture began in early 2010 and were motivated by the desire of low-income residents living in St. Paul Public Housing’s (PHA) Dunedin Terrace and CommonBond Inc.’s Torre de San Miguel housing complexes to continue the traditional practice of growing their own food.

Residents, leadership from both housing sites, WSCO staff, the Center for Urban and Regional Affairs (CURA) and the USDA joined forces to advocate for the right to create community gardens. As a result, both Dunedin Terrace and Torre de San Miguel now have garden sites, with over 40 families involved in the projects.
